On May 2014, Drs. Bauer, Gorfine and Popowich participated in the 2014 Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) in Hollywood, Florida. Themeeting brings together colorectal surgeons from around the nation to discuss in-depth and up-to-date knowledge relative to surgery for diseases of the colon, rectum and anus with emphasis on patient care, teaching and research.
The MSA team presented two of their most recent research projects during the meeting. The first project, “CT Scans in Crohn’s Disease: Predictors of Yield,” looked into the potentially excessive use of CT scans in treating Crohn’s patients. The other project, “Cancer in Ileal Pouches Following Restorative Proctocolectomy,” discussed the rate of incidence of cancer in the surgical pouches of post-operative patients returning for follow-up.
